The Mitt and Huck Show
The presidential race is quickly becoming the Mitt and Huck show.
Sure, some of the other candidates are still viable. Ron Paul is surprising everyone and grabbing our attention with his fundraising efforts. John McCain is making big news with Joe Lieberman’s endorsement. Rudy Giuliani’s campaign is trying to wake up. Fred is…well, there…at least in Iowa…not in SC. But the excitement is watching Mitt and Huck duke it out for Iowa and South Carolina.
In Iowa, both Mitt and Huck have launched new ads. Mitt is hitting Huck for what his campaign is calling bad “judgment” in letting 1033 criminals, including 12 murders out of jail.
Huck is up with a cutesy Christmas ad about his religion. Not that he’s trying to remind people that he’s a Baptist minister and his main opponent is a Mormon. He would never ever do anything like that. Aren’t Jesus and the Devil brothers?
No? Speaking of the Devil, we thought he was the only thing that would torture and kill dogs for fun. Nope. Turns out David Huckabee does too. Oh, and Michael Vick. And we’re betting the Governor’s Spokesman probably did the same as a child.
In South Carolina, a new Rasmussen poll puts Mitt and Huck tied for first place with 23% of the vote. Results are:
Mitt Romney - 23%
Mike Huckabee - 23%
John McCain - 12%
Fred Thompson - 12%
Rudy Giuliani - 11%
Ron Paul - 5%
Duncan Hunter - 1%
Tom Tancredo - 1%
Undecided - 12%
Now, we aren’t putting a whole lot of stock in this poll. For the next month poll after poll will be released and every one will show something different. We do feel on the ground that both Mitt and Huck have surged ahead of the rest, so this poll feels right in the gut, but numbers can be deceptive and this poll will probably not match the one released tomorrow or the next day or the next day by some prestigious polling firm, television station, or university.
Besides, a SC poll really won’t matter until at least Iowa, more likely both Iowa and New Hampshire vote.
