The filing circus begins

More fun than Bello!
Today was the first real day of filing, so expect an exciting couple of weeks and a lot surprises. We don’t have our nose up every legislators butt, so don’t expect us to have all the latest bull crap gossip from the Statehouse. But you can count on us to be your one-stop shop for all the latest campaign news. So here we go.
The biggest news today is that Harry Cato has some serious opposition in Greenville County Councilman Joe Dill. No word yet on who has recruited Dill, although Hoover does point out that Dill was shown some polling. That means he was definitely recruited. Perhaps SCRG? We don’t know but that would seem to be the logical place to look.
No big surprise that Sanford’s Chief of Staff Tom Davis is considering a run against Catherine Ceips. As Tammy points out, its not just a coincidence that the Governor’s Spokesman has been bashing Ceips for the last few weeks. What else do you expect from the Governor’s Office.
Chamber of Commerce big dog Howard Hunter is considering running against Senator David Thomas. At first we thought that Hunter would be running as a Dem, because he was a former Democratic House member. But now we are hearing he is running as a Republican. WOW! This could be a hot race.
Word is that some young buck has filed against Senator Mike Fair. No word yet on who he is or who recruited him.
We heard for a long while that former Secretary of State Jim Miles recently moved to the Golden Corner and is considering a primary bid against Senator Thomas Alexander. We now hear that Miles may be backing off because he found out how freakingly awesome of a Senator Alexander really is. We will keep you updated on this one.
Sheri Few won’t be the only Republican running to replace our boy Bill Cotty. Word is that Kershaw businessman David Herndon is running too.
Speaking of repeat candidate, Mark Willis won’t be the only Republican running to replace Representative Adam Taylor. Jason Culbertson has filed as a Republican. Who is Jason Culbertson? For the last few years he has worked for the SC Department of Education, but don’t let that full you. We ran into him last week at an event and talked to him a few minutes about conservative reforms to the Department and let us tell you…some SC conservative groups that may or may not be affiliated with the Governor is really going to like this cat. And we aren’t being sarcastic there.
And one more huge surprise. We are hearing that one Democratic State Senator will be getting a serious challenge from a self-funder. No, not Dick Elliot, who has serious opposition from two self-funders. This particular Senator has no clue it’s coming. We will give you more tomorrow.
That’s it. More later.
