SC Republicans Receive Bogus Romney Christmas Card

Picture from the AP.

We’ve seen some dirty tricks in our day, but this is by far the dirtiest.  So dirty in fact the people behind the attack could face jail time.

An unknown number of Republicans across South Carolina received a bogus Christmas card last week saying that it was from “The Romney Family” and paid for by the “Boston Massachusetts Temple.”  The card quoted controversial passages from The Book of Mormon, including one about the Virgin Mary’s race.

The Romney campaign and the Boston Mormon Temple say they had nothing to do with the attack.

Jim Davenport of the AP reports:

South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson said he intends to “contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Elections Fraud Division and other appropriate authorities, provide them the copy of the mail piece delivered to South Carolina Republicans and ask for a thorough investigation into this matter.”

However, experts tell us that this trick may fall into another category other than elections fraud. Because the card indicates that it is being sent by a person/group  other than who actually sent it, it could be mail fraud which carries stiffer penalties than elections fraud.

Anyone who knows anything about the Mormon Church knows the Mormon Church refuses to back any candidate in the entire world. The members are reminded of this by letter from the First Presidency every political season. This has been policy for more than 100 years. Also, ‘fair and white’ means beautiful with a glowing countenance of blessedness and purity.

Whoever is guilty of mail fraud here is assuming SC voters are ignorance and bigoted. The SC voters should be greatly offended as they are victims of the bigotry as well.
