Politics and Pig Skin

Recently Jonathan Yarborough and I embarked on mission. We decided to start a local chapter of Young Republicans that would be focused on having a good time, sharing ideas, and creating a strong network of young political professionals and activists.

Instead of having long parliamentary-ruled meetings, we choose to focus on having fun first. Our chapter of YR’s will be devoted to getting conservative Republicans elected, but until the election gets a little closer next year, we thought we could be more like a social club of like-minded individuals.

Will Folks has often described College and Young Republican organizations as the land of 10,000 virgins, and there has been some truth to that statement in the past. But we’re seeking to shed that image by planning some really entertaining events, and inviting some really fun people to attend.

Our first attempt at this will be “Politics and Pig Skins: YR College Football Kickoff and BBQ”. We will all be getting together to watch Mississippi State take on LSU, and will be serving some great home-cooked BBQ with several side dishes. Feel free to come by, bring your favorite adult beverage, and most importantly bring some friends. We’ll talk some politics, but we’re going to try and keep it limited to time-outs, commercial breaks, and halftime.

Here is the invite I’m sure many of you have already received:

Politics and Pig Skin: YR College Football Kickoff

Host: Midlands Young Republicans

Location: Home of Stephanie and Jonathan Yarborough
104 Mulberry Ln., Columbia, SC 29201 US

When: Thursday, August 30, 6:00PM

E-mail: yrmidlands@gmail.com to RSVP or ask questions.

If you are a Republican between the age of 18-40 and live in the Midlands area you are a young republican. If you don’t fit this criteria and just want to support us, come on over.

Also, feel free to invite you think may be interested.

Look forward to seeing you as we enjoy some barbeque and the start of college football season as Mississippi State takes on LSU.
