John West on TV. Is he a Republican?

Democratic State Senate candidate John West has launched a well produced TV ad in his campaign against Republican Paul Campbell.

It’s a good ad and 2 things popped out at us the first time we saw it. First, the word Democrat isn’t mentioned at all. Second, the announcer says that John West “will stand up for our conservative values” as the words “protect our conservative values” appear on the screen.

Boy, he sure is desperate, isn’t he? Imagine how much the Dems had to grit their teeth to put out a spot like that.

But TV in this sort of a campaign is a little bit on the useless if you ask m

It always boggles my mind how bias the GOP is in this state, they can’t fathom a Democrat not being the spitting image of Cindy Sheehan. They can’t seem to grasp the fact that many in this state identify themselves as Democrats and are just like your neighbors, not that crazy guy with the tie dyed shirt and long beard or California Liberal. Most Democrats in this state are anti-gay marriage (look at the referendum, do you think only Republicans got to vote….. many of which voted against it, remember when a Republican wanted the government out of peoples lives) and I would say a majority are pro-life. How does that square up against your views….. I guess John West can’t be conservative. I would venture to guess that there are a good number of Democrats in this state who would find themselves much more conservative than plenty of members of the General Assembly with an R next to their names; myself included.

John West can run an ad how he wants and just because he is trying to get elected on the values and issues he shares does not mean he does not have a D next to his name in the booth. That is much more honorable in my eye than some fool who runs only under a popular party name, and there are plenty who have succeeded in that.

I remember the other man of the same name, who would go on to become a different kind of governor for South Carolina, his motto was “Elect a good man Governor” and the state did, barely; I feel like this is another case of that motto, John West is a good man and he deserves peoples votes because they know him and trust him, not because he has a pachyderm on his signs or insists he is entrenched in a party.

I like the ad by the way, but agree tv in the Charleston market for a seat that only 1 in 75 or so can vote for seems a little bit excessive. But you know tv really works and if he goes on tv and the other guy doesn’t you never know how it will work.
