Jay W Ragley To Take State Party Reins

A familiar face is returning to take the reins of the South Carolina Republican Party.
Rumors are circulating that this weekend State GOP Chairman Katon Dawson will announce staff changes at the State Executive Committee meeting. According to sources, NFIB State Director Jay W. Ragley is apparently heading back to the SCGOP, possibly as the Executive Director to lead the party through the First in the South primary and 2008 election cycle, when all State House and State Senate seats are up for grabs. Current Executive Director Hogan Gidley is staying with the SCGOP, sources say, but his duties will be changed. It is unknown at this time what those duties will be.
As one of Katon Dawson’s closest confidants, Ragley was the SCGOP Political Director for years before leaving to run the SC NFIB. He will be seen as a strong Executive Director as he understands grassroots politics and is one of the state’s best-known operatives amongst GOP activists.
Ragley is a Clemson grad and former Gresham Barrett aide. He served as Political Director of the SCGOP from 2003 – 2006. He declined comment for this story.
