Drew McKissick Running for National Committeeman

We told you yesterday about the Buddy Witherspoon’s letter to the SCGOP Executive Committee announcing his intention to resign from his position of RNC National Committeeman.

We’ve now learned that Drew McKissick has sent a letter out to members of the SCGOP Executive Committee announcing his intentions of running for National Committeeman.

Here is the letter:

Dear Fellow Republicans,

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Buddy Witherspoon will soon be stepping down from his post as our National Committeeman.  He has been an excellent representative for our state at the national level and he leaves some big shoes to fill.

I am writing you today to let you know that I’m running for Republican National Committeeman from South Carolina.  And I need your support.

I have known and worked with many of you over the years in various capacities, most recently as the Co-Chairman of the State Rules Committee.  I’ve been involved in the Republican Party now for well over twenty years, from organizing my precinct and manning the polls on Election Day, to working at the county and state levels, on up to the national level.

It would be an honor to continue that service by representing you on the National Committee.

I first got involved in politics because I cared about issues, but I soon discovered that there were so many issues facing our country that it would be impossible for me to get directly involved in everything that I cared about.  So I decided that I could have the greatest impact by getting involved in the Republican Party and working to keep it focused on conservative principles and helping good conservative candidates get elected to office.

I’ve since found that involvement in the Republican Party also gives me an avenue to work to help educate and inform other conservatives on the political process and teach them how to get involved and how they can make a difference.

I want to help the party reach out to other conservatives who share our philosophy, but who may not yet consider themselves Republicans.  I want to help them understand what we stand for and how they can unite with us and have an impact for our values.

In short, I want to help make the Republican Party a conservative governing majority party – that will stick to its conservative principles.

And again, I need your support.

I’ll be sharing more with you in the weeks ahead, but I wanted to go ahead and drop this note to get the conversation going.
I look forward to speaking with each of you and getting your views and feedback on the needs of our party.  Until then, have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks,

Drew McKissick

Great, a jihadist committeeman. The last thing the GOP needs right about now.

Rumor has it that state GOP committeeman are saying that they are going to vote to hold off an election to fill the term of National Committeeman Buddy Witherspoon until convention in May because convention is so very close. Another option being talked about is the appointment of an elected official to serve as a caretaker to finish out the term. The party before used a caretaker to fill an important position, Tommy Hartnet filled the party chairmanship when McMaster ran for Attorney General before Katon was elected by a full convention. The third option being considered is appointing Katon to the post. Georgia and many other states have appointed there party chairman to fill this post when faced with similar situations. Many party leaders’ feels that a candidate for National Committeeman should have to go through the full vetting process of speaking at county and district conventions, then being voted on by the full convention.
