Converse Chellis running Treasurer (CONFIRMED)

Speculation has run rampid today about Senator Greg Ryberg and former House Majority Leader Rick Quinn running for Treasurer when the General Assembly reconvenes in January.

After Merrill’s statements this morning in the Post and Courier suggesting that he is solidly behind Quinn, many House members are unsatisfied with Merrill’s choice and see Quinn as too big a risk.

Some of those House members have already started lobbying for Representative Converse Chellis.

Chellis is a Summerville area legislator who is a professional Public Accountant.

Most interesting is that Chellis is a “Merrill Guy” and runs in the Merrill-Young-Hinson pack.  Do we have a family fight on our hands?

(UPDATE) - Chellis announced at the GOP House Caucus meeeting that he is interested in the position.

(UPDATE 2) - Chellis has told numerous legislators that he will definately run for Treasurer.

Chellis has the personality of, well, a CPA or a rock. I don’t see him performing well state-wide.

Converse Chellis would be an outstanding State Treasurer. He’s a workhorse, not a showhorse, and that’s what we need in a Treasurer. Highly qualified, strongly committed, well respected.
