Brad Warthen on Tom Davis

What goes around, comes around.

In writing about the alleged attacks on Tom Davis by Rod Shealy, The State’s Brad Warthen wrote:

It’s a helluva thing, isn’t it, when honest people have to fear running for public office because of sleazy stuff that will be done to them that has nothing to do with their suitability for office?

Now, Brad’s a smart guy, no doubt. That’s why it confuses the heck out of us why he would write such a statement. During the 2006 election cycle, Brad wrote repeatedly about the nasty, unfounded attacks on state legislators like Bill Cotty, Bill Whitmire, Ken Clark, and Adam Taylor. Some of those attacks went as far as referring to Cotty as Mark Foley.

Seriously, Mark Foley….a man who made sexual online passes at a young boy?

So we have a couple questions for Brad:

1 – Hasn’t your paper repeatedly written that the Governor and his staff are involved in these attacks?

2 – Do you believe that Tom Davis is one of the top people coordinating these attacks?

3 – If the answer to questions 1 and 2 are yes, why would you refer to Tom Davis as “honest.”

To answer your question, hell yes it’s a helluva thing when honest people have to fear running for office because of sleazy attacks. But is Tom Davis honest? Chances are that he’s been involved in dirty attacks on truly good legislators for the past three years. As Momma said – what goes around, comes around. We will just sit back and watch.

You certainly have a point there. Those of us who had to wade through all that crap back in ‘06 remember it well.

But it’s not Davis that is the final recipient of this stuff - it’s the voters. It may be fair to drag him through the mud, but is it fair to also put the voters in the middle?

While we won’t feel sorry for Davis, we do feel sorry for the many voters in Beaufort County who will get a whining contest instead of a campaign of ideas, policies, and records of public service.

Wasn’t it also Tom Davis who lied during the last governor’s race, saying Tommy Moore was nefariously involved in Operation Lost when everyone knew he wasn’t?

Hasn’t Tom Davis been linked to this “Hit List” everyone keeps writing about?

and for the biggest joke about Tom Davis and “honesty”…

Hasn’t Tom Davis been Mark Sanford’s CHIEF OF STAFF?!?!

Sounds to me like a bunch of sore losers. Perhaps the voters of South Carolina have a better idea of the direction they want for their State.

Sanford: State won’t comply with REAL ID

“Gov. Mark Sanford said today the state will not comply with the federal Department of Homeland Security’s standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and IDs. The decision means S.C. residents could be subjected to extra security screenings when boarding airplanes or entering federal buildings.”

DO YOU REALIZE THAT THE GOVERNOR, BY NON-COMPLIANCE WITH REAL ID WILL BE ATTRACTING CRIMINALS TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA!

Davis better be careful that no one ever catches him stretching the truth.
