“We’ve already explained it”

That was Rudy Giuliani’s response to question concerning the $400,000 spent in taxpayer dollars to maintain his extramarital affair with Judith Nathan while married to Donna Hanover. We told Rudy was going to have a bad day in South Carolina earlier. We didn’t know it was going to be this ugly.

MSNBC Reports:

Giuliani refused to take questions here today about allegations that travel expenses were picked up obscure city offices when he was mayor of New York City.

“We’ve already explained it,” he said, walking past reporters after a town hall meeting.

Giuliani, who is normally friendly to reporters, bristled past them, and campaign staffers were unusually physical in keeping the press away. Several campaign aides told campaign reporters to return to the press area, and some of his security detail manhandled reporters. On other occasions, reporters have been free to video Giuliani as he is shaking hands and signing autographs after events, and he often informally takes questions from reporters.

Jonathan Martin at the Politico examines how the Giuliani campaign is handling this situation poorly. He says:

[Rudy] responds by attacking the messenger — saying on CBS that Ben Smith’s story amounted to a “dirty trick” — and ignoring the fact that his campaign could have explained why they billed the charges the way they did before the story was written.

… [In] a statement, Politico editor-in-chief John Harris said: “We gave the Giuliani campaign ample opportunity to dispute the story or comment on our reporting before publishing and they did not do so. Since the story ran, we have not heard from the campaign disputing any substantive aspect of the story.”

While there are many that questions that remain unanswered, the one I would like to know is how pissed is the pool of reporters in S.C. looking for the first stab at asking Rudy about this issue.

According to the Boston Channel:

BOSTON — An armed man took people hostage Friday at a Hillary Clinton presidential campaign office in New Hampshire, police said.

The incident happened at about 1 p.m. Friday at 28 North Main St. in Rochester. Officials said that a man is holding people hostage at the office, but it is unclear how many people are being held.

There are several police officers positioned across the street from the office, crouched down behind cruisers with guns drawn, according to a reported at the scene.

Nearby businesses have been evacuated, and the St. Elizabeth Seaton School has been locked down.

Clinton, who is not in New Hampshire, is attending a National Democratic Committee meeting in Virginia. Presidential candidate Barack Obama also has an office in Rochester, and it has been evacuated. There were no reports of any injuries.

Good Friday morning. It’s a wonderful day to be in South Carolina…for us. Not so much for Rudy Giuliani.

Unfortunately for him his schedule has him coming to South Carolina today, were taxpayer marital affairs go over about as well as cocaine using State Treasurers. Here are a few articles:

Jay W Ragley To Take State Party Reins

November 30, 2007 | Filed Under State Politics, The Chaser, Top Shelf News | 4 Comments

A familiar face is returning to take the reins of the South Carolina Republican Party.

Rumors are circulating that this weekend State GOP Chairman Katon Dawson will announce staff changes at the State Executive Committee meeting.  According to sources, NFIB State Director Jay W. Ragley is apparently heading back to the SCGOP, possibly as the Executive Director to lead the party through the First in the South primary and 2008 election cycle, when all State House and State Senate seats are up for grabs. Current Executive Director Hogan Gidley is staying with the SCGOP, sources say, but his duties will be changed.  It is unknown at this time what those duties will be.

As one of Katon Dawson’s closest confidants, Ragley was the SCGOP Political Director for years before leaving to run the SC NFIB.  He will be seen as a strong Executive Director as he understands grassroots politics and is one of the state’s best-known operatives amongst GOP activists.

Ragley is a Clemson grad and former Gresham Barrett aide.  He served as Political Director of the SCGOP from 2003 – 2006.  He declined comment for this story.

State Senate Cooking Expensive Steaks

November 30, 2007 | Filed Under Random Fun, State Politics, The Chaser | 2 Comments

We haven’t been to Ruth’s Chris yet.  We hear a lot of really great things, but we just cant afford a $50 steak…with NO sides. Yeah, you have to buy the sides separate.  I would rather just spend $8 at Palmetto Pig and get unlimited sides of green beans and hash.

Anyway we decided tonight to finally try it out and when we went to make a dinner reservation we saw that the number is 212-6666.

So, what does that have to do with the State Senate. Well, according to the folks over at the South Carolina Senate Democratic Caucus, any phone number with a 212 prefix comes directly from the Gressette Building on the State House grounds where the State Senate offices are located.

Yeah seriously…remember this?

Don’t know why we wanted to tell you that.  We get random at times.

MUST READ: Giuliani’s Mistress Used N.Y. Police as Taxi Service

November 29, 2007 | Filed Under The Chaser, Top Shelf News | 2 Comments

I never really thought the Giuliani extramarital affair Judith Nathan would garner any media attention until attack ads started to address this subject later in the primary. While the Politico first broke the story, ABC News just discovered the angle that gives it legs.

Giuliani’s Mistress Used N.Y. Police as Taxi Service
Well before it was publicly known he was seeing her, then-married New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani provided a police driver and city car for his mistress Judith Nathan, former senior city officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

“She used the PD as her personal taxi service,” said one former city official who worked for Giuliani.

Read the entire story by clicking here.

Giuliani has gone out of his way to attack the Clintons, but I think over the next several weeks we are going to be hearing a lot of comparison between him and the former President Clinton. What do you think is worst a taxpayer funded extramarital affair or lying about an extramarital affair under oath?

Let me know in the comment section.

Last Night’s Debate Winner is…

Heath Thompson. Alright I might be a little biased here, but Giuliani had the best candidate submitted YouTube video. I’m not certain it was produced by Thompson, but as Giuliani’s leading ad guy, I’m sure he had something to do with it. Here it is:

The reason it was so great is because it embodied everything YouTube is about. It was funny, smart, and quirky, while still getting a serious message across to the viewers. Most importantly, it cut through the clutter.
